IDEA & THOUGHTS ON SUBANG JAYA TRAFFIC

Recently i heard someone bitching about Subang traffic and it sounded just as horrible as it did over 10 years ago. Suddenly it hit me with a quote i heard from way back that if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. Previously, i tried to be part of the conversation on this thing called solution but nothing that i saw or heard had any potential of making long term impact to the problem. For example, the traffic realignment strategy proposed by an MPSJ appointed consultant late last year might reduce the rush hour traffic congestion probably not more then 5% at its best. Considering the implementation and the emotional cost to us, maybe an open discussion might be a good idea. Conversation, brainstorm and discussion will not cost anything where there's nothing to loose and everything to gain. The following are few idea, thought and suggestion that might be radical and realistic enough in addressing the traffic congestion we are facing now;

  1. gDay - Grocery Day
    • Demographic: Local grocery shoppers
    • Regular shuttle bus that goes around at certain time specifically for the purpose of grocery runs.
    • Potentially sponsored by Mydin or Jaya Grocer
  2. Park & Ride
    • Demographic: Commuting workers
    • This old idea can be revisited and improved to make it more attractive focusing on the cost, convenience and reliability.
    • Eg: Flat rate on parking which include bus ride with free wifi,, coffee and newspapers ie: The Sun and SJ Echo
  3. Night Shift
    • Demographic: Flexible companies that do not depends on daytime operation
    • For companies such as tech, architect & even part time MBA courses can be carried out after rush hours.
    • Certain form of incentive or subsidies might be needed but compare the cost with the time and money wasted on traffic jams.
Even with the masterplan being laid out - none of the local youths are aware of it and i am not trying to sound revolutionary but we can be solutionary. The only thing that differentiate between bitching and not is to make an attempt to be part of the solution by throwing suggestions here and there - at least. Maybe the information can be distributed to temple, churches and mosques or better still - shopping complexes. Do it like you mean it. To welcome solution is to embrace new ideas and encourage participation from all direction. We cannot solve the problem with the same mindset that created it in the first place. If we are not interested in taking part or having any open discussion about this matter, maybe we can look at what other communities are doing to tackle similar traffic challenges - just an idea.
